Krita Roadmap For 2.0
Krita 2.0 will be Qt4/KDE4/KOffice 2.0 based. In Krita 2.0 we will start really exploiting Qt4's painter architecture, KOffice's flake library (for vectors and dynamic text), threading and OpenGL. The most important issues are:
- performance and interactivity. In order to make use of dual core cpu's (which are becoming ubiquitous) we will multi-thread Krita to the max.
Filters, recompositing, redisplay and image manipulation will be multithreaded. Threadweaver seems a suitable library.(done). Performance tuning of the tile backend, the iterators and the way we use Krita at the front-end should be an ongoing effort. (Bart Coppens is working on that)
- colorspaces. We currently have _the_ most flexible colorspace architecture in the free software world. We need to capitalize on that and add missing colorspaces, (HSV) gamut warning both on screen and in the color choosers (nobody working on that). Painterly colorspaces need to be developed _now_. (Emanuele working on that)
Extend the colorspace & filter code to work on one or more channels only. Same with redisplay & composition. This should be easy to do, we just need to add the api and gui.: Done, it only needs to be used. See Krita/PerChannel. layers & selections. For 2.0, an innovative way of handling layers and selections should be implemented: multiple selections per layer, with added dynamic effects, generic masks and value-added channels (like wetness and height) should be usable. - color selectors: profile aware, gamut aware, easy to use, display the color channels numerically in any supported colorspace we have.
- painterly features:
Leonardo is working on this, but we should bug him to checkin his code.: This is now part of Thrain's gsoc proposal. See [].
