ViewSonic Viewpad 10
Key specifications:
- 10' tablet at 1024x600
- Intel Atom
- Hanvon touchscreen
- Approximate price: 470€ (dutch brick n mortar store)
Balsam Professional 12.1

Meego
Runs without apparent problems
openSUSE 11.4
- openSUSE 11.4 runs fine on this machine, graphics seem reasonably fast but the Blur effect in KWin's Dektop Effects has to be disabled
- Problem with Hanvon touchpad, sending too many click events, makes touchscreen almost unusable. Update to 2.6.38 from openSUSE:Tumbleweed fixes this problem and makes it fully functional.
- The system comes with windows 7 and Android 1.6 initially. One can keep the dualboot option, Android takes by default 2 GB of the internal storage, win7 gets the rest. The system boots with a standard grub, when installing openSUSE 11.4, make sure you note the grub config for Android so you can add this back to grub later on. oS 11.4 doesn't add Android automatically to grub's config.
- Network via wifi works out of the box
- Suspend works and is reasonably fast
- Battery life 4 - 5 hours with web-browsing

openSUSE 11.4
- To install openSUSE 11.4 on this device you need to have a Bios, that boots directly from USB. To update the Bios, you need to install a Dos-Disk on a usb-stick with the new Bios. You must modify the MBR, that you can boot from this stick. Origin: german forum thead on www.wetab-community.com about flashing the Bios
- After the installation of openSUSE 11.4 the touchscreen is not functional
- After removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf the touchscreen works fine
- Alternatively boot with the kernel parameter "usbhid.quirks=0xeef:0x72a1:0x40"
- The system comes with WeOS, a modified Meego Linux. The dualboot with the grub bootloader from openSUSE 11.4 work without any problems. Only that you need to plug in a usb keyboard to choose an entry. The touchscreen is not functional at this stage.
- Network via wifi works out of the box, after networkmanager is enabled in Yast.
- Last step is to add the plasma-active packages.

Balsam Professional / openSUSE 12.1
- The Balsam 12.1 LiveCD runs correctly, except for the VGA mode. It starts in 1024x768x16 mode instead of 1280x800x32. You can get the colour depth of 32 by passing the vga=ask option to the kernel and then selecting 1024x768x32. Unfortunately, the current graphics driver psb_gfx version does not support the native resolution.
- The graphics driver doesn't provide any acceleration, therefore the overall performance is rather poor. It should improve if the effects are disabled.
- Games that don't require fast framerate work correctly (KSudoku 2D, KMahjong).
- None of the powersaving options work (turning off the screen, changing the brightness of the screen, suspending), so the battery only holds for 4 hours as opposed to 8 on Windows.
- Everything else works correctly (touchscreen, Plasma Active features etc.).

- The System needs a custom Kernel with support for brcmsmac and hid_ntrig to get WIFI and Touchscreen working .The brcm firmware has to be placed in /lib/firmware which you can get form here linux-firmware.git if it is not installed on your system.
- EMGD driver needs patches from the yocto project to compile on 3.x kernels, you can get patches from here yocto-git. Provides the native resolution of 1024x600 with correct xorg configuration along with OpenGL 2.1 and OpenGL ES 1.0 support.
