Objectives of the KDE Human Design Group

The group focuses on:
  1. refining and polishing existing designs.
  2. performing complete redesigns when the existing design is beyond improvement

The KDE Human Design Group Process

  1. Discussions typically begin in an informal and friendly atmosphere at the Human Centered Design Group at Matrix.
  2. Once a general consensus is reached in the chat, the conversation transitions to a GitLab issue, where developers become involved.

How to propose a User Experience design change

To submit a design change proposal:
  1. summarize the discussion and the initial Visual Design Group conclusion from the chatroom(Matrix) on Gitlab
  2. tag all the relevant participants
  3. include before/after images or mockups of the proposed change
  4. explain the benefits for the user and possible red flags

Once your proposal is posted:

  • Expect the scope and details to evolve with developer feedback
  • Provide strong rationale and evidence for your design choices
  • Begin implementation once consensus is reached and patches can be submitted

The KDE Visual style

Our current visual style is Breeze.

When wireframing, we recommend

  • sketching wireframes or low-fidelity mockups in general
  • trying to reuse existing UX patterns:
    • Breeze and other systems
    • Material Design, Apple's HIG, etc.
