KOffice release information

alpha 2 release

  • (not ready)

Thomas' intro proposal:

KOffice2-alpha-2 is a release showing the integration of various KOffice-wide technologies with Flake[1] as its centerpoint. KOffice is already showing much better integration between applications and a more seemless shift from one application to the next.

KWord has received a new text engine for better printing and WYSIWYG support and continually increasing support for fonts through work in Qt. KWord now can host vector art on its pages as well as bitmaps, it does text-runaround for non-square frames and has much improved support for right-to-left scripts.

Based on this and earlier announcements I'd say:

The KOffice team is proud to announce the second 2.0 alpha release of its office suite. This release is mostly showing the integration of various KOffice-wide technologies with Flake[1] as its centerpoint. Thanks to the Flake technology, applications offer a much higher degree of integration. Besides these architectural changes, many features have been developed. With this alpha release, KOffice targets developers and adventurous users for testing and improvement. Download packages for *** or you can try before you install with the KOffice 2.0 live CD(?)

KDE Beta 1

Text from the KDE beta1 announcement, talking about KOffice:

  • (not ready)

KOffice joins the KDE 4 Beta 1 with it's first Alpha, showcasing the great promise the product has. The infrastructural changes are enormous. Besides fixing many longstanding issues, a great deal of innovative features has been added to KOffice in the last few months. Things like text directionality and layouting are more than top-of-the-bill now. Meanwhile, entirely new additions made it into KOffice, like the Google-sponsored Music Notation flake. As you can see, progress on all fronts, but help is needed. This is an alpha quality release, and while most things compile and start, there are a lot of bugs to fix and things to add.
