Guideline for (not) Using the System Tray in Plasma Active (WORK IN PROGRESS)

In Plasma Active, the System Tray is reserved for central system icons.

  • Do 'not' try to place an icon for your application there. It won't be displayed
  • Do 'never' use an option like "Hide in Tray" or "Minimize to Tray" in your application, as this would render your application inaccessible to the user.
  • For notifications, use the Notification System
  • To allow users to monitor important status information about your application without switching to it, use Your Application's Thumbnail in the Task Switcher
