Tips

Plasma Active is intended for wireless operation, so one of the first things to do is activate a wireless connection. Start by touching the wireless icon in the task bar at the top of the screen.

The task bar pulls down part way to reveal running apps. Default apps are revealed with the task bar pulled down fully.

Set the device time and other functions with the Setup app.

Additional apps can be installed with Konsole using the zypper system. Installation must be done as root (su to become root; root password is mer). Dolphin (zypper in dolphin) is an effective file manager with fairly good touch capabilities.

ownCloud is an excellent personal cloud storage application. If an owncloud remote server has been setup, Plasma Active will synch with it.

  • zypper in owncloud-client
  • launch the Setup app; Synchronization will have been added to the Setup selections. Follow the instructions to connect to the remote server and select the local folder that will be synched.

The onscreen keyboard can be dragged to the top of the screen if it's in the way.

Play around to discover other capabilities of Plasma Active. The video on plasma-active.org provides some ideas about what can be done.

Ask for help and share your experiences in the Plasma Active forum (http://forum.kde.org/viewforum.php?f=211).
