This page contains a list of all voice commands to be included in a Marble voice. See Voice of Marble if you came here by accident.

Instructions

We provide the voice commands for a selected number of languages:

For languages which are not yet translated you need to translate the commands. Please ensure that

  • the translated phrases are short, concise and easy to hear and understand -- this is crucial when driving, being unnecessarily verbose and correct is counterproductive
  • the vocabulary used matches the regular technical driving terms
  • phrases which are concatenated with other phrases form grammatically sensible sentences (if possible) -- see the Concatenated Phrases section below

To generate a translation text file which you can use during recording, do the following:

  1. Download all voice commands and open them in a text editor
  2. Replace each voice command with its translated version. Keep the tips above in mind.
  3. Construct some concatenated phrases (see section below) and ensure that the sentences have a proper grammar (this is not always entirely possible).

Voice Commands

The Text field in each table is to be translated (spoken). The description does not need to be translated, it just describes in which context the text is used.

Status

File Text Description
RouteCalculated.ogg Route calculated. A new route was calculated after the user left the originally planned route.
RouteDeviated.ogg Deviated from the route. The user deviated from the originally planned route.
GpsFound.ogg GPS position found. A GPS connection was established and enough satellites are in view to determine the current location.
GpsLost.ogg Lost GPS connection. Not enough satellites are in view anymore to determine the current location.

Start & Destination

File Text Description
Marble.ogg The Marble Team wishes you a safe and pleasant journey. A Marble specific test sentence that is used as a preview when configuring speakers.
Depart.ogg depart A generic test sentence that is used as a preview when configuring speakers.
Arrive.ogg you have arrived at your destination Played shortly before reaching the destination.

Concatenated Phrases

Some of the voice commands above are concatenated to form sentences. Here is a list of them. These full sentences do not need to be recorded by you, they are automatically created from the recorded phrases they consist of.

Concatenated Phrase Example
RoadEnd.ogg + <Turn Instruction> At the end of the road, turn right.
<Turn Instruction> + Then.ogg + <Turn Instruction> Take the exit on the right, then turn left.
After.ogg + <Distance> + <Distance Unit> + <Turn Instruction> After 500 meters, turn sharply left.

To test that your recorded phrases work nicely as concatenated sentences, you can use the play command from the sox package. For example:

play After.ogg 100.ogg Meters.ogg TurnRight.ogg

Likewise you can use media players like amarok to play several files one after each other. Enable gapless playback, if possible.
