House Keeping Topics

  1. Getting started page
    • new page in preparation at Yocto/GettingStarted
    • goal: understand what KDE embedded is about and how to get started
    • comments for current state:
      • explain difference between layers and product/demo
      • references to Yocto documentation
  2. CI
    • use riscv as default target, because this is not tested by any other CI
    • current work in progress, following concept of last year
  3. layers.open-embedded.org
    • meta-kde, meta-kf5 and meta-kf6 are registered
    • meta-kf6 currently not found because of parsing errors because of meta-qt6 branch structure
      • according to OE upstream, this will take quite some time until the layer parsing is fixed, because it is rather a rewrite of the website
      • fill QTBUG and discuss upstream if they can provide alias branches for kirkstone, mickledore... to help OE passing the parsing
  4. status of KF6 and Qt6 based packaging in general
    • kf6 builds & works
    • plasma-6 works as desktop shell, others not yet
      • remaining problematic Qt5-only dependency is Maliit Keyboard
      • all device specific patches could be removed
      • applications not being built for now

Discussion on General Scope of Embedded in KDE

  • we have the following main goals:
    • work on demos: we want to attract people outside of the typical desktop communities
    • work on meta layer packaging: we want to make industry adoption of KDE software easier
  • ideas for story arc for next FOSDEM's demo stall (or any other conference)
    • focus on topics around home-automation/home infotainment (full screen Elisa, full screen system monitor...)
    • simple Plasma nano based shell for switching full screen apps?
    • combination with shell switch mechanism to desktop shell?
