BoF sessions on Monday, July 24th 2017

All rooms are on Aulario IV and have either a blackboard or a whiteboard. If you need any other equipment, please send an email to [email protected].
Please put your name and email address in the Host/Notes section. There is no length limitation; text will wrap.

BoF Wrap-up at 18:00
Please join the BoF wrap-up session this evening. Another opportunity for communication. Share outcomes and plans, cross-pollinate, attract attention to your project. Please select someone from your BoF to give a summary—topic, what was discussed and decided, what's next, resources desired.

The Akademy team might reasign BoFs based on operational needs

Room 2.2 (reserved for workshops) - 24th July

2.2
Time Subject Host/Notes
9:30
10:30 Playing with amalgam of QML and JavaScript Anu Mittal
12:15 Say what?! Paul Brown

In this workshop you will learn how to quickly transform the introductions to your projects into something easy to understand by a much larger audience, not only your developer friends.

You can use what you learn as introductory texts on your project's website, in presentations, to explain what you do to your mystified boss or confused family, etc.

Please bring examples from your own projects so we can laugh at work on them!

13:30 Lunch
15:00 How to join LibreOffice and Why Gabriele Ponzo
15:30 LibreOffice 5.4 (exclusive early) Release Announcement Gabriele Ponzo & Xisco Fauli
16:00 Migrating FOSS and KDE -- Does KDE have chances? Franklin Weng

In 2013 10,000 PCs were purchased with KDE Plasma4. Since 2015 Taiwan launched a 3-year project to migrate Open Document Foundation and LibreOffice (and a new 3-year following project is ongoing). During these years we communicated many organizations including government and schools and we see another chance -- There are still a number of users using Windows XP. They have the will to change, but don't want to pay the licenses to Microsoft anymore. Does KDE have chances? What will KDE (not only Plasma) need? I'll give some thoughts from what I learned from the LibreOffice community.
